House of the Week

This cozy house was once a hunting lodge. It's a favorite of the Architecture Tourist. It was renovated by Revival Construction within the last ten years - perfection!

My Other Blog - Redo2589

Although we started the Whitehaven blog in January of this year, I'm not new to blogging. I started blogging in 2007 when I was building my house. My husband set up a blog for us to journal the whole house building process. That blog is still active and I am now blogging over there about the house being built next door to me. You can visit that blog at Redo2589 or click on it on the blogroll on our sidebar. If you click on the Archives you can go back to July 2007 when we tore down our bungalow.

A Redo2589 Retrospective of our house process for some Friday fun!

(This was a Christmas bow on the house in Dec 2007).

Visit Redo2589 to see all of the details in between.

Have a great weekend everyone!

We're Loving ....Alabaster Lamps

We have been working on a mismatched pair of alabaster lamps for a client. They are probably from the 40's and were the client's mother's. We had them rewired and put on new shades and finials and they now sit proudly in the dining room on a pair of lucite pedestals. We don't have photos yet, but will soon. Meanwhile here are some images of alabaster lamps.

Beautiful Atlanta Front Doors

Today I am delighted to be guest posting for Blayne over at This Photographer's Life while she is on vacation. I thought it would be fun to explore images of beautiful Atlanta front doors.

One of my favorite design elements of a house is the front door/entry. You have such a great opportunity with the front door to make a statement about the house and the people who live there. Is the door colorful or simple? Are there architectural details or not? Are there lanterns next to the door or is the lighting hidden from view? Let's see what some of Atlanta's prettiest doors have to offer...

To see many more gorgeous doors visit This Photographer's Life (I took over 70 photos for the post!)

I've closed the comments here so you can comment over at Blayne's blog.

Entrance Hall Settee Redo

We inherited this beautiful Louis XVI settee from my mother in law. When my husband was young this sofa sat in the curve of a staircase in his house in Boston. It was covered in blue silk.

The current fabric is just plain terrible - it doesn't do justice to the piece at all. I have been pondering the fabric choice for some time now and think I have finally made a decision. Which one do you like best?

Thought it would be fun to see the interior of this wonderful house.

I really like the juxtaposition of the Federal exterior and the more sleek, modern interior, especially the kitchen. It would be a blast to decorate this house! If you rent it call us for design advice!!!

Please visit the listing for more photos and details.

House of the Week

This week we have another Ansley Park gem. This one looks to be late 1920's or so. While photographing, I admired the architectural details, mature greenery, and the wonderful front porch. Front porch living is a lost art these days...

Love the brackets and the detail on the shutters.

Can you see the porch ceiling? Great detail!

Beautiful fan detail over the front door.

This house overlooks Winn Park, an added bonus - a view from the porch!
