I have had my eye on this house of the week for some time now. It is on a wonderful street in Buckhead that is on the way to a good friend's house - so I drive by it often. I was paging through Classic Atlanta by William Mitchell and found the story of this house. I love the stories of these houses as much as the houses themselves - the stories give them soul.
This Greek Revival house was designed and built in 1936 by Hal Hentz, of Hentz, Adler and Shutze. It was Hentz's residence in Atlanta. Hentz was originally from Florida and studied at Emory College in Oxford, Georgia. He studied architecture with Neel Reid, his eventual partner, at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He also studied architecture at Columbia University.
Hal Hentz and his wife lived in the house until her death in 1941. Mr Hentz lived there after his wife's death until the late 1940's when he sold the house to the Mills Lanes and retired to Florida. The Lanes eventually sold the house to their nephew, Mr. Morrison in 1973. The house is currently owned by well known architect Keith Summerour. I feel certain that the history of the house was a huge draw for Mr. Summerour.
